ACHIEVEMENTS AND CHALLENGES Damien GERADIN I am delighted that the Revue Concurrences has taken the initiative to publish some of the speeches pronounced at the occasion of the 5 June 2007 organized by the Global Competition Law Centre in cooperation with the European Commission. As Commissioner Kroes points out in her speech, it is striking that fifty years ago, the Founding Fathers of the EC Treaty had the foresight to insert competition law provisions in the Treaty of Rome. While antitrust law had already had a long existence in the United States, the six original Member States had only limited experience with competition law. 50 years of EC competition law
Le 5 juin 2007, le Global Competition Law Center organisait en coopération avec la Commission européenne un colloque dédié aux 50 ans de politique communautaire de concurrence à l’occasion de l’anniversaire du Traité de Rome. Cette manifestation, symboliquement hébergée au Berlaymont, a réuni quelques uns des principaux acteurs de l’application du droit communautair de la concurence depuis 1957, avec, entre autres, les Commissaires en charge de la politique de concurrence, Mme Kroes et MM. Monti et Andriessen, MM. les juges Azizi, Bellamy et Koopmans, l’avocat général Van Gerven, les Directeurs généraux Schaub et Helermann et le Professeur émérite, M. Waelbroeck.
