SYNTHESIS
Welcome & Introductory Remarks
Daniel Fasquelle considers digital technology as a challenge for competition law. Indeed, the latter has shown a certain impotence, inefficiency, inadequacy and naivety.
The first observation is that of impotence. In recent years, the digital giants have continued to grow stronger. For example, Google’s net profit in 2017 was 12 billion, in 2021 it will be 114 billion. Competition law is therefore not sufficient to limit the development of these digital giants. This inefficiency is reflected in particular in barriers to entry due to high fixed costs on these markets, network effects and the accumulation of data.
