Welcome Remarks

Frédéric JENNY (Chairman, OECD Competition Committee) opened the fifth edition of the Antitrust in Asia conference by expressing his gratitude to the Chinese University of Hong Kong for hosting the event and acknowledging the role of Professor Sandra Marco Colino in organizing the event. He also thanked the Hong Kong Competition Association for helping in the process. Prof. Jenny invited the participants to explore interactions between competition law enforcement and related fields, including telecommunications regulation, intellectual property, economics, consumer protection, as well as issues raised by mergers in dynamic technology industries.

Sandra MARCO COLINO (Assistant Professor, The Chinese University of Hong Kong) noted the difficulty of picking topics for discussion given the diversity among the jurisdictions, and emphasized the importance of assessing the issues in a global framework. The topics chosen, she highlighted, were relevant even beyond Asia, and touched upon essential issues for the future of antitrust policy everywhere. In addition to thanking the organizers, she expressed her gratitude to the student volunteers for their invaluable contribution to the success of the event.
