COVID-19 pandemic: ESA approves prolongation of support to airlines in Norway*
The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) has today approved the extension of the current guarantee scheme for airline operators in Norway until 31 December 2020.
Strict containment measures, including travel restrictions and quarantine measures, have been re-imposed across Europe after the summer. The decline in travel due to such restrictions continues to have an adverse effect on the liquidity and overall financial situation of airlines.
The guarantee scheme aims to make funds more accessible to airlines and ensure the continued provision of aviation services in the aftermath of the COVID-19 outbreak. The continuing challenges in the airline sector justify the prolongation proposed by Norway.
Today’s decision extends the scheme for an additional two months, until 31 December 2020.
