The Mexican Congress passes a bill of amendments to the Mexican competition law

Between late April 2011 and early May 2011, the Mexican Congress and President Calderón completed the legislative process initiated in April 2010 to pass a bill of amendments to the Mexican Competition Law (the “Reform”). (The Mexican Competition Law was enacted on December 18, 1992 and became effective as of July 1993. It was subject to a prior comprehensive amendment in July 2006. It prohibits monopolies and all practices that may reduce, harm or prevent competition and free participation in the production, processing, distribution and commercialization of goods and services.) The Reform, effective as of May 11, 2011, (Except for certain provisions which shall become effective on a later date as herein indicated.) is sweeping in scope and historic in its reach.
