The Italian Competition Authority grants a cartelist total immunity for the first time under the new Leniency Notice (Produttori di pannelli truciolari in legno)

On 17 May 2007 the Italian Competition Authority (ICA) fined eight firms for carrying out a cartel from January 2004 to November 2005 through which they allocated market shares and fixed prices in the market for chipboard panels. Four of the fined firms belonged to the Saviola group (Sacie Legno srl - € 2.450.000, SIA srl - € 3.024.000, Sit srl - € 5.544.000, Sama srl - € 7.056.000). The other fined firms were Gruppo Frati spa, (€ 6.955.200) Fantoni spa (€ 3.276.000), SAIB spa (€ 1.764.000) and Xilopan spa (€ 529.200). However, one of the cartelist (Trombini spa) escaped a fine since the collaboration it gave to the ICA qualified for total immunity under the recently adopted leniency scheme (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato, “Comunicazione sulla non imposizione e riduzione
