The Czech Competition Authority publishes its first guidelines on fines in antitrust cases

Presumably on 9 May 2007 (see below), the Czech Office for the Protection of Competition published its first guidelines on the method of setting fines on its website. Whereas it has been known for some time that some kind of guidelines were used by the Office to calculate fines, the latter has been very reluctant to disclose them, fearing probably that more transparency on this subject would leave its decisions even more vulnerable to attack by the undertakings concerned. The sudden publication is therefore an important as well as surprising step in the proclaimed “opening to the public” of the national competition authority.
