"The Commission opens investigation procedure regarding aid to Polish steel company Huta Czestochowa"*Introduction On 19 May 2004, the European Commission took its first decision outside the interim procedure to launch an in-depth probe into possible aid granted to a company in a new Member State. The company concerned is the Polish steel producer Huta Czestochowa S.A. (hereinafter ‘HCz‘). As the company is in financial difficulties, Poland is currently planning financial measures in order to restructure the company. The Commission is now seeking clarification whether and what kind of restructuring State aids was and will still be granted to the company.
