The Cypriot Competition Authority imposes a fine on an undertaking for abusing its dominant position by pricing water supply services in tourist area (Community Council of Kouklia)

Introduction On 12th March 2019 the Cyprus Commission for the Protection of Competition (“CPC”) issued a decision imposing a fine of €78,889.28 on the Community Council of Kouklia (“CCK”) for a violation of Section 6(1)(a) of the Protection of Competition Law (Law 13(I)/2008), as amended (“Law”). The said violation was founded on the CCK’s decisions regarding the pricing of water supply services in the tourist area within the boundaries of the Kouklia community in the district of Paphos. The decision of the CPC was issued after a complaint filed on 23rd December 2015 by two holiday property owners in Aphrodite Hills Resort, which is located within the boundaries of the community of Kouklia.
