The Lithuanian Competition Authority fines Lithuanian notaries for fixing their fees (The Chamber of Notaries)

On 26 of June 2018, the Competition Council of the Republic of Lithuania [1] issued a decision finding that the Lithuanian Chamber of Notaries and eight individual notaries who were also members of the presidium of the Chamber of Notaries breached the Lithuanian Law on Competition as well as Article 101(1) TFEU by fixing notaries fees. The Chamber of Notaries was imposed a fine of EUR 88 400 and individual notaries received fines varying from EUR 700 to EUR 20.800. During its investigation, the Lithuanian Competition Council established that the fees for notary services in Lithuania were provided in a secondary legislative act which was adopted by the Minister of Justice.
