The EFTA Surveillance Authority approves amendments to support scheme for Norwegian tourism sector due to the COVID-19 pandemic

COVID-19 pandemic: ESA approves amendments to support scheme for Norwegian tourism sector*

The EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) has today approved a prolongation of and amendments to the Norwegian liquidity support grant scheme for businesses in the tourism sector.

On 6 July 2020, ESA found the scheme to be compatible with the EEA Agreement, and in line with the European Commission’s Temporary Framework for state aid measures to support the economy in the current COVID-19 outbreak.

Given the continued negative impact that the COVID-19 crisis has on the tourism industry, the scheme is prolonged until 30 June 2021. The scheme has also been extended to cover more tourism-related sectors, and the budget will be increased from NOK 250 million (EUR 23.1 million) to NOK 550 million (EUR 46.2 million). In line with the Temporary Framework, no more than EUR 800 000 may be granted per beneficiary.

More information can be found in ESA’s decision here.
