The Cypriot Competition Authority rejects a complaint of abuse of dominance in the funeral and cemetery services market (Archangel Funeral Services / The Holy Metropolis of Limassol / Funeral Office of The Holy Metropolis of Limassol)
Introduction
On 4 January 2019, the Cyprus Commission for the Protection of Competition (“CPC”) rejected a complaint filed by Archangel Funeral Services Plc (“Complainant”) on 2 November 2015. The complaint concerned an abuse of dominant position of The Holy Metropolis of Limassol (“Respondent 1”) and the Funeral Office of The Holy Metropolis of Limassol “Paraklisi” Ltd (“Respondent 2”) in the funeral and cemetery services market in violation of Section 6(1) of the Protection of Competition Law (Law 13(I)/2008), as amended (“Law”).
Undertakings concerned
The Complainant provides funeral services, which mainly include the preparation of the service and the organisation and conduct of funerals. Respondent 1 constitutes a separate legal entity under the Charter of the Church of Cyprus
