The Indian merger control regime under the Competition Act, 2002 has been in force for nearly five years. In addition to the statutory provisions, the Combination Regulations were introduced by the Competition Commission of India in 2011 . These Regulations contain detailed rules on form-filling, procedures and exemptions from filing and have been amended annually to reflect developments in the CCI’s thinking and practice. New Amendment Regulations  were published on 8 January 2016, and came into force on the same day. They coincided with the departure of CCI Chairperson Mr. Ashok Chawla on 7 January and the appointment of his replacement Mr. Devender Kumar Sikri on 11 January.
