The Spanish Competition Authority fines the five major producers of bath and shower gel for a price-fixing cartel in its first successful leniency case (Fabricantes de gel)

On 21 January 2009, the Council of the Spanish Competition Authority (Consejo de la Comisión Nacional de la Competencia, hereinafter the “Council”) sanctioned the four largest Spanish manufacturers of bath and shower gel. i.e. Puig Beauty & Fashion Group, S.L. ("Puig"), Sara Lee Household and Body Care España, S.L., ("Sara Lee"), Henkel Ibérica, S.A. ("Henkel"), and Colgate Palmolive España, S.A. ("Colgate", all together, "the Companies") for infringing Article 1 of the former Spanish Law No 16/1989 on Competition ("the Former Competition Law") as well as Article 81 of the EC Treaty (currently art. 101 TFEU). The level of involvement of the fifth producer, The Colomer Group Spain, S.L. ("Colomer") was not completely clear, and the Council ordered the Directorate of Investigation of the
