The Czech Competition Authority clears a 25 % price increase by the dominant fuel card issuer based on a new quantitative rebate system (CCS)

On 18 February 2008, the Czech Office for the Protection of Competition announced via a press release that it terminated its investigation of the increase of fees collected by CCS, the principal issuer of fuel cards in the Czech Republic, from the merchants which operate its point-of-sale terminals. The investigation was based on several complaints lodged with the Office following the introduction by CCS of a new fee structure, which led to an average increase of 25 pct of the amounts paid by filling stations and other businesses for the operation of the terminals. The Office found that the new structure is based on a quantitative rebate system,
