Giovanni Napolitano is Director of IP and Competition Policy at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) since March 2021. He graduated with a Master’s Degree in Science and Technology Policy from the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex in 1987. He spent 7 years at the Italian National Research Council working on science policy matters, and he joined the Italian Competition Authority in 1994. In 2010, he joined the Intellectual Property and Competition Policy Division of the World Intellectual Property Organization by working on policy issues regarding the IP/Competition interface. He was Director of the Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Entrepreneurship Support Division for 4 years and Deputy-Director and then Director of the Transition and Developed Countries Department.
