Gert-Jan Koopman

Gert Jan Koopman has been Deputy Director-General for State Aid since November 2010. He joined the Commission in 1991 (Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs) and worked as an advisor and Head of Cabinet (Commissioner Neil Kinnock’s Cabinet). Gert-Jan Koopman was then Director for Industrial policy and economic reforms in the Enterprise and Industry DG from January 2005, Director for the Economic Service and Structural Reform Directorate at the European Commission’s Economic and Financial Affairs DG from May 2008 and Director for Policy Strategy and Co-ordination. He was also a member of the Commission’s Impact Assessment Board which vets all Impact Assessments produced by Commission departments. Mr Koopman worked as a Researcher and Policy adviser for the University of Utrecht and the CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis.
