Valérie Meunier

Dr. Valérie Meunier is a Senior Vice President with Compass Lexecon in the Brussels and Paris offices. She is also Deputy Head of Compass Lexecon’s Research Team. Since joining Compass Lexecon in 2012, she has advised clients from a wide range of industries, in all fields of competition policy and in a variety of jurisdictions including the European Union, the UK, France and Scandinavia, among others. Valérie has advised on numerous merger cases both before the European Commission, the Autorité de la Concurrence in France and in other jurisdictions. Recent cases include Cargotec/Konecranes, HHI/DSME, E.On/Innogy, Thales/Gemalto, Discovery/Scripps, Safran/Zodiac Aerospace, H3G Italy/Wind, SFR/Numericable and Omnicom/Publicis (for the main parties), and Siemens/Alstom, TeliaSonera/Telenor, JCDecaux/Metrobus (for third parties). Valérie has been involved in antitrust cases, providing economic expertise in several competition enforcement cases investigating, inter alia, rebates, patent settlements, predation, excessive pricing, margin squeeze, vertical restraints, information exchange and cartels in a wide range of industries including automotive, media and telecommunications, advertising, pharmaceutical, agri-food, building materials, consumer goods. Valérie also advises clients in cartel damages litigation. Prior to joining Compass Lexecon, Valérie worked at the Autorité de la concurrence, first as an Economist, then as Deputy Chief Economist. Within the economic service and backing the Investigation Services, she was working on competition, merger and consultative cases, bringing her expertise in a wide range of issues – margin squeeze, information exchange, exclusive dealing, etc. – covering a diversity of economic sectors – energy, telecommunications, pay TV, etc. She has also taken part in several competition policy debates, including the review of the competition rules applicable to vertical agreements. Valérie received a Ph.D. in Economics from the Toulouse School of Economics (France), and after a post-doc at CIRANO, she joined Aarhus University (Denmark) where she was an Assistant Professor at the School of Economics and Management, and where she taught and conducted research in Industrial Organisation. She has co-authored several articles published in academic journals including The RAND Journal of Economics.
