Luc Chatel

Luc-Marie Chatel is born on August 15, 1964 in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. He was Minister of National Education from June 2009 to May 2012 and deputy at the French National Assembly until 2017. He is currently partner at Ekkio Capital (Paris) since 2017, president of the Automotive Platform PFA and president of Odyssey International since February 2020. Luc Chatel graduated with a Master of Management Science (1987) and obtained a DESS Marketing at University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (1988). At the end of his studies, he joined L’Oreal Group and became an HR Director of a group entity, position he held until 2002. In parallel to his professional career, he started in politics within the Republican Party and then with then Liberal Democracy. In 1993 he became municipal councilor of Bayard-sur-Marne (Haute-Marne), from where his family originated, then he became councilor of Chaumont in 1996. In 1998 he became Senior Vice President of the Champagne-Ardenne Regional Council, a position he held until 2004. He was elected in 2004 in the 1st district of Haute-Marne and reelected in 2007. Specialist of consumption problems, he has often been appointed rapporteur on the bills or legislative proposals related to this area, especially on the bill failed on the class action. In 2004, he became national secretary and national spokesman of the UMP. Within this party, he is a member of The Reformateurs movement. On 19 June 2007, he was named in the second Fillon government, State Secretary to the Minister of Economy, Finance and Employment, responsible for Consumer Affairs and Tourism.
