Leonardo Armati joined the DG COMP at the European Commission in March 2021. Prior to joining the EC, Leonardo Armati was a senior counsel at the Brussels office of Bonelli Erede Pappalardo where he practiced in the field of European Union law and antitrust law, both in Italy and other EU countries. He advises and assists corporate clients with merger control, antitrust and regulatory compliance matters as well as with State aid and other European Union Law matters. Before joining Bonelli Erede Pappalardo, he worked in Italy and then as an intern at the Commission of the European Union, where he dealt mainly with State aid law in the transport sector. He has written on and gives lectures in the field of EU and competition law. He graduated from the University of Rome La Sapienza in 1999 and obtained an LL.M. (“Grande Distinction”) from the Université Libre de Bruxelles - Institut d’études européennes in 2001.
