Ivan Verougstraete has a long experience in teaching (economic law mostly) and writing (on procedural law, economic law, public and administrative law, intellectual property law and European law). Ivan Verougstraete has a solid background on mediation. He is an expert for the government on codification of economic and commercial law. Between May 1981 - March 1989 he was a member and from 1985 on president of a civil section of the Court of appeal Brussels. From 1989-1-10-2010 he was a member, then head of civil section, acting first president and finally president (retired in October 2010) of the Supreme Court of Belgium. He did missions to Kinshasa and Lumumbashi concerning procedural law and for the world bank on insolvency law (in Washington, Buenos Aires).
