

Fiona Schaeffer
Fiona Schaeffer has extensive experience in antitrust counseling, litigation, and transactional matters for clients in a broad range of industries, with particular depth of experience in the health care, financial services, and energy sectors. Fiona advises on antitrust aspects of mergers and acquisitions, structuring and operating joint ventures, distribution arrangements, licensing agreements, and other commercial transactions. She also defends clients in criminal and civil government investigations, and litigates in a variety of fora, including arbitration proceedings, consumer class actions, and private antitrust suits in federal and state courts. She has brought cases to the European General Court and Court of Justice in Luxembourg as well as litigated private actions in the U.K. Her extensive international experience brings added value to clients who conduct business globally and interact with different legal systems and regulators. After starting her career in Australia, Fiona practiced European competition law in London and Brussels for a number of years before moving to New York in 1998. She frequently represents clients in cross-border transactions and often serves as global coordinating antitrust counsel where transactions require merger approval in multiple jurisdictions. She is also active in Jones Day’s Latin America practice, with a particular focus on antitrust issues involving Brazil and Mexico. Fiona chairs the International Antitrust Committee of the ABA Antitrust Section and the Antitrust & Trade Reg. Committee of the New York City Bar and is a member of the Council of the ABA Section of International Law. She is repeatedly recognized in legal directories and was included among the Global Competition Review’s Top "40 under 40."
