From 2011 through 2014 David Wingfield was the head of the Competition/Antitrust division of the Canadian Department of Justice and Senior General Counsel with the DOJ. In that capacity, David was responsible for all advisory and litigation activities relating to Canada’s Competition laws including acting as lead trial counsel on a number of significant competition cases. Whilst in private practice, both before he joined the DOJ and afterwards, David has acted as lead counsel on numerous cases in a wide variety of areas of public, international and commercial law including over 45 reported decisions from the trial division through to the Supreme Court of Canada. David’s clients have included both a sitting and former Prime Minister of Canada, Provincial governments and global financial institutions. David practises as a Barrister in London from Fountain Court Chambers in the Temple and in Canada as a partner of Cassels Brock & Blackwell. He is a member of the Bars of England and Wales, New York State and the Province of Ontario.
