Dr. Andreas Bardong evolved since 2001 into different functions at the Bundeskartellamt (German Competition Authority) in Bonn. Until October 2016, he was Head of Section German and European Merger Control in the Bundeskartellamt’s General Policy Division. One of his missions during the last 8,5 years in this function was to represent the Bundeskartellamt in the EU Merger Working Group and he had the responsibility of helping to shape M&A review policy, inter alia, the recent draft of the BKartA’s remedy guidelines that are currently subject to a public consultation. In October, he was appointed Rapporteur in the decision division dealing with financial services, i.e. member of a panel that investigates and decides cases. Before his time as head of unit merger control, he was Rapporteur in the Decision Division responsible for construction and construction materials industries ; Adviser in the policy units for legislation, public affairs and network industries ; and Case Handler in the Decision Division responsible for IT, telecommunications and electronic equipment. Prior to joining the Bundeskartellamt, Andreas Bardong was an Associate in Brussels at WilmerHale and at Baker & McKenzie. He holds an LL.M. from the University of Michigan Law School, and a Doctorate in Law from the University of Saarland, Saarbrücken. He authored various publications in particular on merger control and the European Competition Network.
