University of Leiden
Academic Coordinator

Agis Karpetas obtained his LLB at Democritus University of Thrace, Greece, in 2009. In 2010, he successfully completed the Advanced LLM in European and International Business Law at the Law School of Leiden University. Having always been equally fascinated by criminal as well as by competition law, he chose to write his Master’s thesis on cartel criminalization. After one year of work as a practicing lawyer in Greece with a focus on Greek criminal and commercial law, he returned to Leiden and joined the Europa Institute in September 2011 as a PhD/fellow and academic coordinator of the Advanced LLM in European and International Business Law. He is also part of the European Law Moot Court coaching team of Leiden Law School. His particular interests lie in the fields of the foundations of EU law, the internal market and competition law. Agis’ doctoral research focuses on one specific aspect of the interplay between public and private enforcement of EU Competition Law, namely the interaction between private damage claims and leniency programmes. Agis has been a member of the Athens Bar Association since 2010.
