The gigantism of the object: what response to the massification of data? (Deauville, 26 June 2021)

This contribution written by Christophe Lemaire (co-director of the Master 2 European Union Economic Law at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and associate lawyer, Ashurst Paris) was collected following the annual "Droit & Commerce" conference organised on 26 June 2021 in Deauville on the new challenges of competition law. Among its challenges, competition law must respond to those posed by the digital economy. In particular, competition law is confronted with the gigantic size of digital actors, powerful and operating in ecosystems, and with the gigantic size of its object, data. It then explores the remedies or tools that can or could be mobilized to address these issues. While the debates today are mainly focused on the search for new tools and remedies, it shows that there are already a significant number of relevant tools and remedies.
