Joint venture: The European Commission authorizes the creation of a joint venture by an airline undertaking and a manufacturer of aeronautical, aerospace and defence-security equipment (Boeing / Safran / JV)

On 27 September 2018, the European Commission approved the creation of a joint-venture between Boeing and Safran. The joint-venture will design, manufacture and sell auxiliary power units ('APUs'), supply the spare parts associated with the APUs, and provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services. APUs provide electrical power to the aircraft and its systems, when engines are shut down. Therefore, APUs are typically used when aircrafts are on the ground.
