A collective work under the direction of Professors Burnier da Silveira (University of Brasilia) and Kovacic (George Washington University), with seventeen contributions on four main types of competitive challenges: those of the digital economy with three comparative law illustrations (India, Mexico and Russia); those of the traditional economy in four other countries (Brazil, Mauritius, Japan and Peru); those of competitive neutrality and the public interest, focusing on the comparative role of competition authorities in Europe and Asia and on the South African experience with remedies and state-owned enterprises; and finally, the challenges of convergence (in the light of the ASEAN example) and regionalization (in the light of regional agreements in Latin America and the Caribbean). In addition, two other contributions were made on merger law in China and recent developments in Argentinean competition law. The book concludes with forward-looking reflections by the two co-publishers, who return in particular to the digital challenge and the need for international cooperation to make the competition rules of the 130 States that have adopted them more convergent throughout the world.
