In this book in the series "Major judgments, texts and commented documents" of the "Competition Law/Droit de la concurrence" collection, the authors present and comment in detail on all the texts devoted to the material aspects of State aid in European Union law, focusing on the legislative bases, decision-making practice and the contributions of the European Union courts, particularly with regard to the interpretation and sanctioning of the concepts in question. In a context of litigation and political conflicts, the book provides valuable points of reference in the analysis of substantive State aid law, from the concept of aid to the concept of compatibility of aid with the internal market. Through a didactic approach addressing the guiding principles, evolution and practice of State aid law, this collection of commented texts is intended to depict the current state of this branch of Union law as interpreted and practised by its institutions. The texts cited cover EU regulations and directives, administrative acts of the competent authorities such as Commission guidelines and notices and the case law of the EU courts. Accompanied by the explanations and comments of the authors, teachers and practitioners specialising in the field, the extracts quoted will enable the reader to grasp the problems related to this topic and the answers formulated by both the legislator and the judge. The book will be particularly useful for practitioners specialising in competition law. It will answer with certainty to their questions in this complex and evolving area of State aid law.
