Ten years after the start of the financial crisis that has shaken the European continent in particular, this collective work is a welcome opportunity to take stock of the application of state aid control rules to the banking sector. Twenty-four contributors, practitioners and academics, lawyers and economists, thus address major cross-cutting issues such as the specificity of the banking sector and financial regulation (see Part I), before analysing the way in which State aid law has been implemented (in particular through the market economy investor test and the rules specific to the treatment of companies in difficulty: see Part II) and explaining how most of the States concerned have reacted (see Part III, which includes the study of the following countries : Belgium, Cyprus, France, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom); while the last two contributions (see Part IV) establish links with the new regulatory framework for bank resolution, which is supposed to better protect users of the banking sector in the European Union.
