The Global Merger Conference 2014

Half-day conference organized by Concurrences in partnership with Paul Hastings.

Program

WELCOME & INTRODUCTORY REMARKS

Pierre Kirch, Partner, Paul Hastings, Brussels/Paris

After expressing his thanks to Nicolas Charbit (Editor in chief of Concurrences), to the speakers and to the audience, Mr Kirch introduced the main theme of the second Global Merger Conference in Paris with the idea that competition lawyers were mandated to find global solutions for their multinational clients, veritable “businesses without borders”.

Mr Kirch pointed out that the event represented a true worldwide merger control conference, with panelists coming from four continents.

He said that the conference aimed, for the second year in a row, at creating a dialogue and finding appropriate solutions regarding the practical issues which “businesses without borders” must face through multijurisdictional merger control filings. More than 120 countries in the world have merger control regimes and there is not a global harmonization. In this regard, Mr Kirch reminded the audience that global transactions by their nature produce worldwide merger control issues that would be the subject of the conference.
