Introductory remarks

Frédéric Jenny

There are four main hot topics currently discussed within the competition law community: the complexity of enforcement of competition law in the digital economy; the objectives of competition law (and the balance between fairness and efficiency in competition law proceedings); the institutional design of competition law enforcement systems and its impact on competition law enforcement; and finally, international cooperation with respect to the assessment of transnational practices and transnational mergers in the context of globalization. The discussions and debates during the New Frontiers of Antitrust conference will address several ‘topics’ related to these hot topics, including the divergences between the approaches of national competition authorities, competition issues related to online distribution, the efficiency and possible improvements of interim measures, and gun-jumping.
