I am Bill Kovacic. I am a member of the faculty of George Washington University and King’s College, London and with me today is Andrea Coscelli, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority. Welcome Andrea.

Thank you Bill.

We are delighted to have you with us today to discuss in many ways the knowhow of being a senior official in a public agency. In your capacity at the CMA, you developed a wonderful program, you’re a voice that commands respect and attention in the field of competition law and policy and not so much to discuss the substantive program of the authority, but to examine more of the question of leadership, what takes you to a position of the kind you have? What prepares you for it? What’s your learning about from the experience and what you can tell your successor, so that we create a compendium of materials, knowhow about how to do this very difficult job.

If I could start by asking in coming to the CMA, you had had a variety of other experiences as a manager and now as the Chief Operating Officer of the institution, which of your life’s experiences best prepared you for this initiative?
