MERGERS: COMMISSION APPROVES ACQUISITION OF SANOFI'S ANIMAL HEALTH BUSINESS MERIAL BY BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM, SUBJECT TO CONDITIONS* The European Commission has approved under the EU Merger Regulation the acquisition of the animal health business of Sanofi (Merial) of France by Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) of Germany. The decision is conditional on the divestment of a number of animal health vaccines and pharmaceuticals. The proposed transaction leads to a combination of two key competitors in the development, manufacturing, marketing and sale of animal health products across the European Economic Area (EEA).
