The EU Commission conditionally clears a merger in the agriculture sector (Bayer / Monsanto)

On 21 March 2018, the European Commission conditionally approved the acquisition of Monsanto by Bayer. The parties’ activities overlap in the supply of seeds, pesticides and digital agriculture. In order to obtain approval, Bayer has committed to: (i) divest its entire vegetable seed business and all related R&D; (ii) divest almost the entirety of its global broadacre seeds
