The Spanish Competition Authority approves an acquisition of exclusive control subject to remedies in the market of direct sales of petrol (REPSOL / PETROCAT)

On 7 April 2014 the National Markets and Competition Commission (“CNMC”) approved the acquisition of exclusive control of Repsol Comercial de Productos Petrolíferos S.A. (REPSOL) over Societat Catalana de Petrolis S.A. (PETROCAT) subject to remedies. [1] PETROCAT is active in both the market of direct sales of petrol in Catalonia and to the concessions of the port of Gerona and in the market of retail distribution of fuel for vehicles via petrol stations mainly located in Catalonia. In turn, REPSOL is a Spanish multinational energy company active in the exploitation, production, transport and refinement of oil and gas as well as in the production, distribution and commercialisation of oil and gas derivatives.
