The EU Commission unconditionally clears an acquisition in the genset sector (Caterpillar / MWM)

This case provides a further example of unconditional approval being granted by the Commission at the end of an in-depth Phase II (see also UPM/Myllukoski and Rhein Papier of 13 July 2011, case no. COMP/M. 6101; Seagate/Samsung hard disk reader business of 19 October 2011, case no.COMP/M.6214; and Oracle/Sun Microsystems of 21 January 2010, case no.COMP/M. 5529). The procedure before the European Commission On 14 March 2011, the Commission received notification that Caterpillar proposed to acquire sole control of MWM Holding GmbH (Germany); both parties make and sell generator sets, referred to as gensets (electricity generating devices with a reciprocating engine).
