The Italian Competition Authority closes the antitrust probe into agency agreements in the insurance sector with a commitments decision (Agenti monomandatari)

In its decision of 20 May 2014 [1] the Italian Competition Authority (ICA) has accepted the commitments offered by seven major insurance companies to end an antitrust investigation into vertical agreements with their agents. The investigated insurance companies were UnipolSai Assicurazioni, Assicurazioni Generali, Allianz, Società Reale Mutua di Assicurazioni, Società Cattolica di Assicurazione, Axa Assicurazioni and Groupama Assicurazioni. In order to boost competition in the insurance sector ,the Italian legislator enacted a law that prohibits non-compete provisions in vertical agreement between insurance companies and agents in relation to insurance against damages [2].
