The Swedish Competition Authority launches a post-merger in-depth investigation on the acquisition of a media company (Retriever)

On 12 May 2010, the Swedish Competition Authority announced that it was conducting an in-depth investigation concerning the acquisition of Swedish media company Retriever AB [1]. While the competitive aspects of the case may be complex and perhaps even warrant scrutiny, the announcement served as a reminder that post-merger investigations are a possibility under Swedish competition law and can involve acquisitions of smaller companies which technically fail to satisfy the threshold requirements for merger notification. On August 28, 2009, Norwegian media company Schibsted announced that it had entered into an agreement to sell the wholly owned subsidiary Retriever AB, a digital media monitoring, archiving and analysis provider on the Nordic market, to the Swedish media company
