The Spanish Competition Authority publishes report on competition within the automotive fuel sector (Informe sobre la competencia en el sector de carburantes de automoción)

On 3 September 2009, the Spanish Competition Commission published a Report on competition within the automotive fuel sector in Spain (the "Report"). The Report analyses in detail the competitive structure of the retail market in Spain (level of competition, entry barriers, regulation, etc). Its overall conclusion is that there is insufficient competition in the market, and that further action should be taken by the authorities in the future to reduce/eliminate the existing high entry barriers (mainly of a regulatory nature). According to the Report, both structural and behavioural circumstances are contributing to the lack of competition in the automotive fuel sector.
