The Romanian Competition Authority announces the results of the sector inquiry in the market for retail distribution of alimentary products (Report of the Sector Inquiry on Retail Distribution of Alimentary Products)

On 29 September 2009 the Romanian Competition Authority published the results of it sector inquiry on the market for retail distribution of alimentary products, which was initiated in March 2008. The inquiry was narrowed down to several products, which have special importance in an average household: milk, eggs, pork, chicken, vegetable oil, bread, salamis and vine. The conclusions were based on the questionnaires filled by 250 undertakings ranging from hypermarkets to small street shops. The CC established that in 2008 60% of the specified alimentary products were distributed by small shops, while supermarkets and other large stores accounted for 40% of the relevant market. These
