The Italian Antitrust Authority approves a merger between payment service providers subject to remedies* By its recent decision issued in the Nexi/SIA [1] case the Italian Antitrust Authority (IAA) has vetted a merger between two firms active in the payment service field. This industry is currently experiencing a sustained global consolidation process fuelled by the businesses’ plans to offer more advanced and innovative services to customers. Following a preliminary analysis that revealed that the transaction might harm competition in some markets for payment services, the IAA opened a Second Phase merger enquiry but then it approved the operation subject to a set of remedies.
