The Australian Standing Committee on Economics publishes a report on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission activities

THE ACCC’S ANNUAL REPORT: THE YEAR IN REVIEW* On 15 October 2018, the Standing Committee on Economics (Standing Committee) published a report on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), which details the ACCC’s performance and operations based on the ACCC’s 2017 Annual Report. The Standing Committee’s Report follows a hearing on 29 June 2018, in which the Standing Committee scrutinised the ACCC’s conduct. The 2017-18 year was a big year for the ACCC and competition regulation in Australia – – The Government introduced significant, and long-anticipated changes to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) (CCA), as we described in our posts here and here; – The ACCC established a new financial services unit which enables it to play a ‘competition champion’ role
