"Bringing light into the dark: Commission fines long-lasting candle wax cartel more than EUR 676 million"* With its fifth cartel decision in 2008 the Commission imposed heavy fines on several producers of paraffin waxes and slack waxes. The decision adopted on 1 October established that these producers had been involved in anticompetitive arrangements in the paraffin wax and slack wax industry for up to thirteen years. The investigation that started off with a leniency application by Shell lasted three and a half years from the moment conditional immunity was granted until the adoption of the decision. I.
