The Spanish Competition Authority clears a merger in the Spanish TV market (Telecinco / Cuatro)

A fundamental restructuring has taken place in the Spanish television market with the recent approval by the National Competition Commission (CNC) of the merger between Telecinco and Cuatro with commitments, followed by its decision a few days later that no merger filing was required on the acquisition of joint control of Digital+ by PRISA, Telefónica and Telecinco, since no change in the control structure of Digital+ was involved. The two mergers had initially been notified to the European Commission, which referred them to the CNC, considering it the best placed authority to deal with the case. On 28 April 2010 Gestevisión Telecinco (Telecinco), one of the first three private television channels in Spain, therefore notified to the CNC its intention to acquire sole control over the TV
