The Italian Competition Authority starts investigation in the market of football audiovisual rights for alleged infringement of Art. 102 TFEU (RTI/Sky)

On 3 November 2010, the Italian Competition Authority opened an investigation in the market of football audiovisual rights for an alleged abuse of dominant position, contrary to Article 102 TFEU (Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union). I. Parties of the Case SKY ITALIA (hereinafter, SKY) is a broadcasting company operating via satellite TV in Italy. It is part of a group of companies controlled by the American “The News Corporation Ltd” (hereinafter, NewsCorp). The claimant, RETI TELEVISIVE ITALIANE S.p.a. (hereinafter, RTI), is part of the Mediaset Group, and controls three Italian TV channels (i.e. Italia Uno, Canale 5 and Rete Quattro).
