The competition authority in Portugal (Autoridade da Concorrência - AdC) decided last November 19, 2009, after investigation, to prohibit the acquisition by TAP - Transportes Aéreos Portugueses, S.A (TAP) of the exclusive control of SPdH - Serviços Portugueses de Handling,S.A. (SPdH), by acquiring further 50,1% of the shares of SPdH, previously owned by a pool of banks [1]. TAP, the national airline of Portugal, is also owner of the regional subsidiary carrier Portugalia and has been a member of the Star Alliance since March 2005.
