The Portuguese Competition Authority conditionally clears a merger in Phase II in the pay-TV market (TV Cabo / Bragatel / Pluricanal Leiria / Pluricanal Santarém)

On 21 November 2008, the Competition Authority decided not to oppose a concentration in the subscription television market subject to conditions and obligations, whereby CATVP - TV Cabo Portugal, S.A. (“TV Cabo”) acquired sole control over three competitors: Bragatel - Companhia de Televisão por Cabo de Bragatel, S.A., Pluricanal Leiria - Televisão por Cabo, S.A., and Pluricanal Santarém - Televisão por Cabo, S.A. [1]. The transaction caused a concentration in the following relevant markets were both acquiring and acquired entities operated: (i) the provision of fixed telephone services, (ii) the provision of broadband internet access services, (iii) the wholesale provision of internet connectivity services, and (iv) the retail
