The French Competition Council condemns practices restricting prices for medical services provided in public hospitals (Anatomic and Cyto Pathology services)

Anatomic pathologists and cytopathologists examine cells and tissues to diagnose disease. Such physicians provide services to public hospitals pursuant to negotiated agreements or winning bids. To practice, physicians must join the National Medical Authority, and register with the Authority's Departmental Council. They must also submit their contracts to the Departmental Council, which may withdraw the registration if it disapproves the contract. The National Union of French ACP Physicians (“Union”) defends the interests of participating physicians. Nordpathologie and Centre de pathologie Liberté (“CPL”) are two competing physician groups providing ACP services in the region of Nord Pas-de-Calais.
