In 1999, Csemege Julius Meinl Rt. (Csemege), a company owning a grocery retail chain, filed a notification with the Hungarian Competition Office (HCO) in which it requested the HCO to permit its acquisition of control in ALFA Kereskedelmi Kft. (ALFA), another grocery retailer. The acquisition of control was obtained through the exercise of its option right and purchase of a 25.85% shareholding from Creditanstalt Rt. (Creditanstalt). In 1997, Creditanstalt and Csemege - which at the time owned a 49.25%
